Data Privacy Policy

What data Lighthouse collects, how it is stored, and your rights as a member.

Last updated: March 26, 2026

Lighthouse collects a small amount of personal information from members in order to operate the community. This policy describes what we collect, why we collect it, how it is stored, and what rights members have over their data.

What Data We Collect

When you register for a Lighthouse account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for account authentication and community notifications.
  • Username — your chosen display name within the community.
  • Birthdate — the user's actual birthdate
  • Minecraft username and UUID (if you choose to link your account) — used to verify your identity on the Minecraft server and assign in-game permissions.
  • Discord user ID (if you choose to link your account) — used to sync your community membership to Discord roles.

We also collect limited activity data as a normal part of running the community, including:

  • Records of administrative actions taken on your account (promotions, disciplinary actions).
  • Notification preferences you set.
  • Support ticket submissions and their associated correspondence.

We do not collect payment information directly. Donations are processed through Stripe, which operates under its own privacy policy. We receive confirmation of donation status but not full payment details.

Why We Collect This Data

The data we collect exists solely to operate the Lighthouse community. Specifically:

  • Email enables account authentication, password recovery, and opt-in notifications (meeting reminders, ticket updates).
  • Birthdate — used to verify the user's age and determine what parental controls are needed
  • Minecraft account enables verification and permission assignment on the Minecraft server.
  • Discord account enables role synchronization in the community Discord server.
  • Activity records support accountability and help staff maintain a fair and consistent community.

We do not sell member data. We do not use member data for advertising purposes.

Data Storage and Security

Member data is stored on servers operated by Lighthouse's hosting provider. Access to the database is restricted to authorized staff with a technical need (Command staff and the server administrator). We take reasonable precautions to protect member data from unauthorized access, but we cannot guarantee perfect security.

Passwords are hashed using industry-standard methods and are not stored in plain text.

Third-Party Data Sharing

Lighthouse does not sell or trade member data. We share limited data with third parties only in the following circumstances:

  • Stripe — donation processing. We pass the minimum information required for payment.
  • Discord — when you link your Discord account, your Discord user ID is stored and used to manage your server roles. Discord's privacy policy governs how Discord handles your data.
  • Pushover — if you enable Pushover notifications, your Pushover user key is stored and used to send notifications you request.
  • Legal requirements — we may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal process.

Data Retention

We retain member account data for as long as your account is active. If your account is deactivated or you request deletion, we will remove your personal data from active systems within a reasonable time frame.

Some records (such as disciplinary history) may be retained in anonymized or summarized form for community integrity purposes even after an account is deleted.

Your Rights

As a Lighthouse member, you have the following rights regarding your data:

  • Access — you may request a summary of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction — if your data is inaccurate, you may request that it be corrected.
  • Deletion — you may request that your account and associated personal data be deleted. Use the Account Settings page to initiate an account deletion.
  • Portability — you may request a copy of your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, submit a Support Ticket. We will respond within a reasonable time frame.
