Community Expectations

How members are expected to engage with the Lighthouse community.

Last updated: March 26, 2026

The Code of Conduct defines what is prohibited. Community Expectations describe what we hope for — the kind of community members we want Lighthouse to attract and cultivate. These are not rules enforced by punishment, but standards we hold ourselves to because we believe they reflect genuine care for one another.

Participation and Good Faith Engagement

Members are expected to engage authentically and constructively. This means:

  • Showing up in good faith. Approach conversations, disagreements, and community events with the intent to understand and contribute, not to win or dominate.
  • Being present in the community. Lighthouse is not a drop-in server. Members are expected to build relationships and invest in community life, not only to use the server's resources.
  • Contributing to a positive atmosphere. Encouragement, humor, and shared joy are part of what makes community life good. Members are expected to add to that, not detract from it.

Raising Concerns and Disagreements

When a member has a concern — about another member, a staff decision, or the direction of the community — the expectation is that they raise it constructively:

  • Bring it to staff directly. Use the Support Ticket system or speak with a staff member privately rather than venting publicly in community spaces.
  • Assume good intent first. Most conflicts arise from misunderstanding. Try to clarify before assuming malice.
  • Accept decisions gracefully. Staff may not always decide in a member's favor. Members are expected to accept those decisions without retaliating, rallying others against staff, or making a public scene.

Welcoming New Members

Existing members play a key role in shaping the experience of people who are new. Expectations include:

  • Respond to new members warmly. A simple greeting goes a long way.
  • Help newcomers find their footing. If a new member seems lost, point them to the right resources.
  • Don't gatekeep. Lighthouse is a community that seeks to grow. Long-standing members should not make new members feel unwelcome or like outsiders.

Representing Lighthouse Outside the Community

Members occasionally interact with people outside Lighthouse while representing the community — on social media, in other Minecraft servers, in public forums, and in daily life. When doing so:

  • Represent the community honestly and charitably. Don't exaggerate Lighthouse's size, status, or capabilities.
  • Don't speak on behalf of Lighthouse without authority to do so. Individual members do not represent official Lighthouse policy.
  • Carry the community's values outside its walls. How members behave elsewhere reflects on the community they belong to.

The Spirit of the Community's Values

Lighthouse is a Christian community. While faith is not required of all members, the community's values — generosity, honesty, humility, and care for others — shape how we aspire to treat one another. Members are expected to honor that spirit, even when no specific rule addresses a situation.

When in doubt, ask: does this reflect the kind of community we want Lighthouse to be?
